Red Wine by Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza from Rioja, Spain. This single vineyard, estate-bottled, unfiltered Rioja is given an unusual upbringing of one year in tank followed by two years in French and American oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Its dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of cherries, currants, licorice, and smoky oak. A supple texture is somewhat deceiving as there is plenty of tannin beneath the wine's full-bodied richness and intensity. Beautiful purity and overall harmony suggest a balanced and long life. From a serious, artisinal Rioja producer, this unfined/unfiltered 2002 (a blend of old vine Tempranillo, Graciano, and Grenache) boasts a dark ruby/plum color along with notes of creosote, vanilla, black cherry, and cassis. This is a modern-style Rioja, exhibiting dark, robust, plush fruit and agreeable tannins. The 2006 Ergo Tempranillo has lots of body and structure, as well as multiple layers of fruit.

Intense, dark color with just a reddish, iodine-colored tinge at the rim. Initial impact of balsamic aroma in the mouth which fades leaving smoothness along the edge and below the tongue, with a slight recollection of tannin on the upper gums and front palate.

Red Wine by Marques de Riscal from Rioja, Spain. The reserva wines of Marques de Riscal are made basically from grapes coming from vines over 15 years old, of the Tempranillo variety. This is a variety that ages well in wood, producing wines with a good tannic structure, color and acidity during the ageing process. The reserva wines of Riscal spend approximately two years in American oak barrels, forming a wine which adheres to the principles of classic Rioja wines.

Bouquet: Complex and elegant aromas of ripe fruit, dominated by scents typical of the Tempranillo grape, but with balsamic tones and touches of oak. Bouquet: Deep and fruity with a perfect touch of oak integrated into the ripened fruit. Taste: Powerful and full-bodied although soft, round and velvety, it fills the mouth with ripe blackberries and firm tannins. Very well-structured, with a long, elegant finish. Food pairings: An ideal accompaniment to red meat, especially when grilled, and all kinds of roasted meats, including those that are well-spiced. As a powerful wine, it also reinforces the flavors of strong and well-cured cheeses, such as Blue Cheese and Roquefort.

Red Wine by Muga from Rioja, Spain. 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo, and Graciano The vineyards are planted on a mix of calcareous clay, and clay with iron soils. Muga is the only winery left in Spain that uses only oak throughout the entire vinification process, which is very traditional and artisanal. This wine was aged for 6 months in wooden vats, 2 years in new 60% French and 40% American oak barrels and at least 12 months in bottles.

Old vine mouthfeel, with ripe tannins and sweet blueberry fruit. Deep red. Restrained, elegant aromas of redcurrant, strawberry and cherry. Then sweeter and denser in the mouth than the nose suggests, with strong blackcurrant and cherry flavors nicely complemented by sexy oak spice and a subtle mineral quality. Finishes chewy, powerful and rich, with a full, broad expression of sweet dark fruits. This is delicious.IWC
