Red Wine by Abadia Retuerta from Ribera del Duero, Spain. The estate of Abad?a Retuerta lies just outside the Ribera del Duero D.O. in the province of Castilla y Le?n, in the heart of an expanse of wine estates known as the golden mile, an area parallelling the banks of the Duero River so named for its history of producing some of Spain's most acclaimed wines. Selecci?n Especial is dense ruby-garnet in color, with a subtle, complex nose of ripe red berry and wild black cherries offset by notes of violet, menthol, spice and vanilla. Silky, ripe red fruits and hints of spice and mint predominate on the palate, with a full, harmonious balance underscored by refined tannins. The finish is finely textured and lingering.

Red Wine by Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza from Rioja, Spain. This single vineyard, estate-bottled, unfiltered Rioja is given an unusual upbringing of one year in tank followed by two years in French and American oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Its dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of cherries, currants, licorice, and smoky oak. A supple texture is somewhat deceiving as there is plenty of tannin beneath the wine's full-bodied richness and intensity. Beautiful purity and overall harmony suggest a balanced and long life. Red Wine by Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza from Rioja, Spain. From a serious, artisinal Rioja producer, this unfined/unfiltered 2002 (a blend of old vine Tempranillo, Graciano, and Grenache) boasts a dark ruby/plum color along with notes of creosote, vanilla, black cherry, and cassis. This is a modern-style Rioja, exhibiting dark, robust, plush fruit and agreeable tannins. The 2006 Ergo Tempranillo has lots of body and structure, as well as multiple layers of fruit.

Red Wine by Castell del Remei from Spain. 65% Tempranillo, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 10 months in 2-4 year old French oak. Consistently called one of Spain's greatest wine values, this wine like most from this small D.O. of Costers del Segre in Western Catalonia tends to be more spice driven with high fruit concentration and often a “sauvage character that is quite appealing and delicious.

Complex bouquet that opens out with notes of slightly spiced blackberries and a hint of refined leather. Very full in the mouth, where this superb wine reveals its character that comes through with fleshy fruit and good structure in which slightly chalky tannins highlight its fullness. Red Wine by Marques de Riscal from Rioja, Spain. 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Others Very complex nose with a combination of balsamic aromas, spices and raisiny fruit. Intense, dark color with just a reddish, iodine-colored tinge at the rim. Initial impact of balsamic aroma in the mouth which fades leaving smoothness along the edge and below the tongue, with a slight recollection of tannin on the upper gums and front palate.

Red Wine by Marques de Riscal from Rioja, Spain. The reserva wines of Marques de Riscal are made basically from grapes coming from vines over 15 years old, of the Tempranillo variety. This is a variety that ages well in wood, producing wines with a good tannic structure, color and acidity during the ageing process. The reserva wines of Riscal spend approximately two years in American oak barrels, forming a wine which adheres to the principles of classic Rioja wines.
