Red Wine by Angoves from McLaren Vale, Australia. The fruit for this wine is grown in the foothills of the Adelaide range as you leave the beach side town of McLaren Vale. The sandy loam soils rise and gently face the west, allowing the vines to soak up the warm afternoon rays of the sun. The cooling evening breezes, which flow from the sea up the valley floor, give the vines relief during the summer nights and allow steady maturation of the berries while preserving elegance and natural acidity. This medium to full-bodied Shiraz displays upfront cherry and licorice aromas and secondary spicy oak so characteristic of McLaren Vale Shiraz. The full palate shows more luscious ripe berry fruit, with complexity provided by soft mouth filling tannins. The freshness shows potential for aging, but the softness allows enjoyment now.

Red Wine by Barnard Griffin from Columbia Valley, Washington. Sensory: Here is another great Syrah!! Again with a warm vintage we gained great color and dramatic structure. The aromas of our 2004 are intense and very ripe with a background note of spicy toasted French oak. Scents of plums, blackberries and violets are dominant. The flavors are dark and rich on the palate following through with the dark fruit theme. The wine is soft in its tannins but balanced with good acidity. Vineyards and Growing Season: The 2004 growing season was hot with deep ripening fruit that gave us wines of good structure. Both sugars and acids were balanced and optimal throughout our contracted Syrah vineyards. I believe that Syrah achieves best results in our climate if allowed to begin its characteristic dehydration. I remain dedicated to blending different vineyard sources to achieve balanced, full flavored wines. Winemaking: ICV D54 yeast was used with a maximum fermentation temp of 88F Pump-overs 2 to 3 times daily until fermented to ca. 5 degrees brix Bottled 7/05 Malo-lactic positive Aged in both American and French oak barrels Alcohol: 13.8%

Red Wine by Barossa Valley Estate from Barossa Valley, Australia. The picturesque village of Ebenezer was founded in the northern region of the Barossa Valley in 1851. The first vineyards at Ebenezer were established at the time of settlement and have been painstakingly nurtured ever since. It is from these vineyards that the Barossa Valley Estate Ebenezer range was born. Fruit for the Ebenezer range of wines are picked predominantly from low cropping Barossa vines ensuring that the wines are rich and full bodied with intense varietal and regional character. Deep earthen blood red in color with soft purple hues, this wine displays a wonderful bouquet of lifted cherry blossom and blackberry, complexed by hints of chocolate, anise and oak tones. The full palate is rich and ripe, with a firm, fleshy body and supple, rounded tannins. Red Wine by Boarding Pass from South Australia, Australia. The 2005 Shiraz was aged in French and American oak for 12 months. Purple-colored, it is very expressive, with a nose of smoke, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry jam. Layered, supple-textured, sweet, and full-bodied, this seamless, crowd-pleasing wine offers a remarkably long finish for its humble price. Drink this awesome value over the next 6-8 years. The Boarding Pass label is just that, a dead ringer for an airplane boarding pass. According to Dan Philips, it is like going on a trip to Australia without leaving home while the First Class is a luxury upgrade. Aside from the humor, these two wines have more in common with Fed-Ex, delivering the goods right on time. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland.

Red Wine by Bonny Doon from Central Coast, California. The label of the Syrah Le Pousseur suggests a mysterious figure, cloaked in a great coat, in which rare vials and flasks of vaguely illicit elixirs, potions and philtres are cached. The image evokes a Tarot card, and as such, represents an archetypical figure, an icon resonant to the unconscious. Great Syrah is all about perfume and the tension between the wild and the refined. 2005 was a coolish year, one of elegance and restraint, and the '05 is extremely refined; the wine (upon decanting) has an especially seductive perfume. The signifiers of vrai syrah: bacon fat is well in evidence, as is the scent of licorice, anise, wintergreen, violet and spicy elements - white pepper, most notably, juniper, cardamom and sandalwood. There is also a brilliant mineral element herein - mostly in virtue of shy-yielding grapes. The texture is particularly noteworthy, with melted, creamy tannins and a very silky finish.

Red Wine by Brassfield from North Coast, California. This signature vineyard of five and a half acres was planted in 2001 and represents the first Syrah produced from the Monte Sereno vineyard located at 2100 feet in elevation on the western slopes of High Valley. The soils on this ridge top are primarily broken shale characteristic of Franciscan formation. Much of this vineyard has a northern exposure which delays ripening by a couple of weeks giving the fruit some additional hang-time, and subsequently softer, velvety tannins. Complex aromas of dark fruits, lavender, cola nut and toasty oak are present and intertwined amongst the elegant flavors, along with a touch of leather, soy and smoky cedar. The broad based palate is framed by the silky tannins providing a wine of great structure for long-term aging, but its soft suppleness makes this stunning wine enjoyable now.

Red Wine by Ch. Souverain from Sonoma County, California. Aromas on this Syrah start with blueberry, cassis black pepper and raspberry notes with hints of floral and spice. The mouthfeel is warm, supple and rich, with flavors of ripe berries, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla framing a core of lush fruit. This estate wine is designed to be approachable, yet have a sense of complexity and richness, allowing for development with bottle age. The grapes for Chateau Souverain's Syrah come from our estate vineyards, located at the northern end of the Alexander Valley, adjacent to the western bank of the Russian River. The gravelly soils of the Viognier and Syrah vineyards, positioned on slopes overlooking the river, are of moderate fertility and vigor, which helps to keep the crop loads in good balance. The hillsides, located further back from the river provide the Mourvedre with even less fertile soil than the Viognier and Syrah vineyards, helping to keep this large clustered variety stressed enough to ensure concentrated fruit development. One of The Year's Best Syrahs. Rustic and dynamic, this has the energy syrah gets when the vine hits a balanced ripeness. There's an electricity between the crushed granite tannins and the crushed violet fruit, a juiciness in the end that keeps coming on... -Wines & Spirits
