Rhone Red Blends
Red Wine by Perrin from Cotes du Rhone, France - Rhone. Jean Pierre and Francois Perrin have taken particular care that this Cotes du Rhone meets their stringent standards of excellence. As proprietors of Chateau de Beaucastel in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Perrin family has demonstrated exceptionally high standards for nearly a century. The Rouge originates from a significant portion of the Perrin's own vineyards, including those at Chateau Grand Prebois. Produced from 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre, some of which are flash-heated using the same methods as those at Chateau de Beaucastel, the fruit is rich and jammy with peppery spice, concentration and intensity.

The nose is reminiscent of morello cherries, flowers and licorice. On the palate it shows an unctuous texture and is rich and concentrated. This is a fine bottle from a great terroir. It will go perfectly with beef, lamb and dishes containing black truffles.

Red Wine by Rutherglen from Victoria, Australia. This is a great Rhone blend. The Reunion heralds the delightful 'Reunion' of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Shiraz and 20% Grenache. Mourvedre is rarely the dominant variety in these traditional blends, however the 2005 vintage saw the variety develop magnificent colour, tannin ripeness and exceptional concentration in flavor and varietal characters, adding spice and game to the blend. The Shiraz offers lovely berry fruit, pepper and color richness, while the Grenache is the strawberry, candy, vanilla and spicy support variety. Delicious drinking.

Red Wine by St. Cosme from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France - Rhone. The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape is a nicely structured, deep plum/garnet-colored wine with plenty of Provencal herbs, sweet black cherries, and currants, some resiny notes, and broad flavors. It is a fine 2004 to drink over the next decade. Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate 90 Points

Red Wine by St. Cosme from Cotes du Rhone, France - Rhone. One of the glorious things about this firm is their negociant line, called simply St.-Cosme, that includes so many extraordinary values, not to mention some profound wines at the top end. - Wine Advocate This little gem was made from an intriguing blend of grapes which were all fermented together. With a maceration of 40 days this is an intense, super-concentrated Cotes du Rhone, which has seen no oak at all but is still profoundly complex. Opaque in colour the wine has an exotic perfume of spice, raisins and lilacs. This is followed by a rich, full-bodied wine with layer upon layer of black fruit flavours, silky tannins and a depth that puts this humble Cotes du Rhone way above its status. Delusions of grandeur no doubt but what a wine it is. It will be irresistible when released but age well for 3-6 years.
