Red Wine by MacRostie from Carneros, California. The grapes for this Pinot Noir came exclusively from Wildcat Mountain Vineyard. Here, the vines dig into the sparse volcanic soil and stand firm against the strong winds that race in off of the Pacific Ocean most afternoons. This fog-shrouded mountaintop vineyard is a classic Sonoma Coast site, cool and challenging, and produces wines of great distinction. From its dark, dense garnet color, to its multifaceted aromas of roasted cranberry and espresso-with just a hint of cola, this is a rich and expressive Pinot Noir. Full and satisfying in the mouth, it delivers a veritable explosion of ripe black cherry and baking chocolate flavors, all wrapped in subtle, but notable toasty oak. With nice structure and a complex, persistent finish, this is a wine that should age very well.

Red Wine by Mark West from California. Enticing aromas of juicy cherry, fleshy plum, strawberry tart and orange marmalade, with barrel notes of vanilla, cedar, brown sugar and spice. Oak aging rounds out the palate and gives the wine its body. Lush weighty fruit on the palate, tasting of raspberry preserves. The finish is fresh, bright and lingers of ripe red berry flavors.

Red Wine by Orogeny Vineyards from Russian River, California. Orogeny Green Valley Pinot Noir shows bright Bing cherry, pomegranate and toffee notes on the nose, with a hint of spicy oak layered with ginger, nutmeg and coriander. On the palate, the bright cherry flavors dominate, supported by lively notes of blackberry and blueberry that linger on the candied-cherry finish. The lush fruit continues to develop with time in the glass. This lovely wine pairs perfectly with seared duck breast with cherry sauce, pork tenderloin with pear-ginger chutney or wild mushroom risotto.

Blend: 76% Pinot Noir, 16% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre, 2% Petite Sirah, 2% Merlot Robert Mondavi 2006 Private Selection Pinot Noir was produced primarily from grapes grown along California's marine-influenced Central Coast. Reflecting the character of the cool, elongated 2006 vintage, which fostered the development of classic varietal aromas and flavors in Mondavi's Pinot Noir grapes, this vivacious red wine's hallmark is fresh, vibrant fruit. In the nose, lovely raspberry and dried cherry aromas mingle with complementary scents of white and black pepper, mint and chicory. Red Wine by Robert Stemmler from Carneros, California. Robert Stemmler's Estate Pinot Noir is a culmination of the diversities of their property in Carneros. The 2005 is a blend of six different blocks reflecting several soil types, sun exposures, vine age and clones (Martini, Roederer, Calera, Dijon clonal selections.) It is this diversity that creates their most complex Pinot Noir. This wine shows lifted aromas of pure strawberries and blueberries intermingling with mineral, sage and earth. A lush mouthfeel focusing on wild blackberries with nuances of pepper, mineral and a long fanning finish.

Red Wine by Saintsbury from Carneros, California. From Pommard clones, this delivers distinctive Pinot Noir character of black cherry, sour cherry and spice in a vibrant wine of power and elegance. Saintsbury's house style and the essence of the appellation show most clearly in this Carneros bottling where they work with more than a dozen vineyards located throughout Carneros but with a heavier emphasis on the Napa Valley side of the AVA. Reverence for the appellation is most obvious by the gentle handling the grapes and wine receive from vineyard to bottle, critical to making high caliber Pinot Noir that maintains the mark of the vineyard, rather than simply the mark of the producer.

Red Wine by Sebastiani from Sonoma County, California. This wine has a jammy cherry aroma infused with a slight toast. The flavor is full of bright cherries and is very soft in texture. It is an up-front, forward-style of Pinot Noir that is deliciously drinkable with only the slightest amount of oak seasoning to accent its luscious, deeply cherry-fruited characteristics. Very dense up front, with delectable aromas of plum cake, black cherry and vanilla. The palate is not enormous, but it's big enough to satisfy any lover of modern-style Pinot Noir. The palate is ripe with heavily extracted cherry and strawberry flavors with a slight astringency akin to pomegranate seeds. This very generously fruit driven wine is a must with smoked game hen with bitter greens or wild salmon with a rich bearnaise sauce and roasted beets with a champagne vinaigrette.

It is this diversity that creates their most complex Pinot Noir. Aromas of raspberry puree, cherry compote, fresh herbs and red licorice. Tight and focused fruit on the palate with layers of red currant, wild blackberries and juicy blueberry balanced by fresh acidity.

Red Wine by Testarossa from Central Coast, California. Dark red color. There are aromas of red cherry, raspberry, vanilla bean, anise, and black pepper. This wine smells rich and only gets better in the palate with ripe cherry and strawberry flavors, wrapped around a spicy core. The plush tannins and crisp acidity make this wine fresh today, but should age well for up to 6-7 years.
