Red Wine by Bialla Vineyards from Napa Valley, California. The label depicts an old stone structure which is believed to be the oldest house in Tiburon, CA. It is referred to in history books as the Castle. The house sits a few hundred feet above the San Francisco bay and commands a 180 degree view of the bay. In its golden days it was a distribution center for alcoholic libations during prohibition. It is complete with tunnels, hidden caves, and has been the home of actors, authors and entrepreneurs. Today, slightly improved for today's lifestyle, it is the residence of the Bialla family. All fruit in this fine Cabernet Sauvignon is estate grown. Bialla's goal is to spare no expense in making the finest wine possible, with a maximum production limit of 500 cases per year. This is a rich Cabernet true to Napa's world famous style. Look for dark fruits and hints of tobacco, with a nice long finish.

Another break-out hit for the recidivist partisans of this eclectic pan-Mediterranean blend. The varietal mix was altered just a tad this year and introduced a substantial amount of cabernet franc into the concoction. Big House Red is all about fragrance, spice and soft tannins. It has a fragrance of mint and garrigue, with insinuations of blackberry and the ubiquitous framboise. Not a wine that you would want to serve to the Queen (in virtue of its unregenerate rusticity), it is nevertheless a wine that is the perfect complement to barbecue, pasta, pizza and all of the major non-vegan groups. ...It's really good, and proves that Randall Grahm continues to march to his own beat... -Wine Enthusiast

Red Wine by Boarding Pass from South Australia, Australia. The 2005 Shiraz was aged in French and American oak for 12 months. Purple-colored, it is very expressive, with a nose of smoke, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry jam. Layered, supple-textured, sweet, and full-bodied, this seamless, crowd-pleasing wine offers a remarkably long finish for its humble price. Drink this awesome value over the next 6-8 years. The Boarding Pass label is just that, a dead ringer for an airplane boarding pass. According to Dan Philips, it is like going on a trip to Australia without leaving home while the First Class is a luxury upgrade. Red Wine by Bocce from California. The best description of the Bocce wines come from an understanding of the label and the family from which it comes. In 1919, the first year of prohibition, my grandfather took the train to California to learn where the best grapes could be purchased for making wine said Michael Mondavi. He determined that the Lodi area was the best because of the Zinfandel grape, which made a good red wine but also had thick skins and could be shipped across the country in rail cars or trucks without spoiling. In 1920 Cesare Mondavi and family moved to Lodi, California, to ship wine grapes and winemaking supplies to Italian families throughout the country. According to law each head of household could make 200 gallons or four barrels equivalent of wine. Cesare chose the name Bocce for the crate's label after his favorite pastime. The label you see on the bottle is a replica of the label on the crates of grapes Cesare shipped. Now that you understand the label, it is time to understand Rosa Mondavi, Cesare's wife. Rosa became interested in her grandson Michael's start into the wine business. She was concerned that he and his father were only going to make luxury style wines or to her way of thinking \\x91special occasion' wines. She felt Michael needed to make a wine for everyday people (like herself) to drink, and most importantly it had to be good. Michael asked his Nonna (grandmother) to explain further. She said it has to be affordable enough for daily use and it has to be good enough for friends and family to ask for a second or even a third glass. If they do not want that second glass the wine is not very good. It was that simple. Bocce wines are meant for everyday enjoyment with family and friends, and shared with a hearty meal and lively conversation.

Red Wine by Bodegas Castano from Spain. 100% Monastrell.Bodegas Castano has long been an advocate of the Monastrell varietal in the zone and its use has increased in other bodegas as a result. Known as Mourvedre in France and other parts of the world, the varietal is perhaps best known for its influence on the wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape where the terroir and climate is not dissimilar to that of Yecla with both benefiting from a very warm, Mediterranean climate with warm days and nights. The 2004 Hecula is a single vineyard selection of 100% Monastrell, 50% tank aged and 50% aged in French oak. It is slightly less ebullient but more serious than its younger sibling. Exhibiting aromas of toasty black fruits with milk chocolate in the background, this is a super-rich effort with terrific depth and concentration for its humble price. It is a remarkable value for drinking over the next few years. -The Wine Advocate

Red Wine by Bodegas Castano from Spain. Excellent example of the Monastrell grape in its early years. Intense aromas of black fruit (plums) and less ripe red fruit (cranberries, mulberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants). On the palate it is fruity and fresh, and alive with tannins which leaves a pleasant aftertaste. The 2005 Monastrell is an insane value produced from three vineyard sites ranging in age from 40-60 years. Opaque purple-colored, it gives up fragrant aromas of blue fruits, plums, and prunes. Ripe, layered, and full-flavored, this hedonistic effort can be enjoyed now but will surely evolve for 2-3 years. Match it with beef and lamb. -The Wine Advocate

Red Wine by Bodegas Castano from Spain. Saturated purple. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a sexy mocha quality adding complexity. 1 cent shipping ends 2/21. Promo code and details at Wine.com.Red Wine by Bodegas El Nido from Spain. The inky purple 2003 El Nido, which comes from 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines (70%) and 61-year-old Mourvedre (30%), was aged 26 months in new French and American oak barrels. It exhibits leathery, creme de cassis, and pain grille characteristics, additional tannin and body, and a formidable palate. A wine of extraordinary extract and richness, it will be a target for old timers and reactionaries who will feel it is too internationally styled, but it is an eye-opening wine from an area better known for large cooperatives and mediocre quality. It should evolve for 15 or more years. Well-known Australian winemaker, Chris Ringland, oversees the winemaking at this estate, fashioning intriguing reds with great depth as well as richness. These wines have broken all the parameters previously established by the backwater appellation of Jumilla. -Wine Advocate

Red Wine by Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza from Rioja, Spain. This single vineyard, estate-bottled, unfiltered Rioja is given an unusual upbringing of one year in tank followed by two years in French and American oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Its dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of cherries, currants, licorice, and smoky oak. A supple texture is somewhat deceiving as there is plenty of tannin beneath the wine's full-bodied richness and intensity. Beautiful purity and overall harmony suggest a balanced and long life. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate 94 Points
